Trivia

Series 1 | Series 2 | The Specials

Episode 1

The song that’s being hummed at the very start of the show is “Mah Na Mah Na” by The Muppets. Or at least it was a recent novelty hit for them, it’s been used by Benny Hill in the past, although arguably originated with the controversial and provocative film Sweden, Heaven and Hell, from 1968.
Anyway, so you can hear for yourselves:

Episode 4

Simon, the IT guy, is right about Bruce Lee only fighting Chuck Norris in Way of the Dragon, and not Enter the Dragon. And yes, he does fight Bob Wall in both.

During the Cooper and Webb presentation, the first speaker is introduced as Mark Found, from Sound Investments, and probably not coincidentally, Mark Found is the sound recordist for the series. A similar thing happened in Fawlty Towers, where in one episode Sybil refers to a friend by the name of Bill Morton, who was the show’s sound man. Thanks to Dez and Dave for these two trinkets!

Episode 5

The tune that Brent is humming while he does his improvised dance is the intro to Disco Inferno by The Trammps.
UPDATE: Now with added proof! Thanks to these two sounds:

In the episode, Jennifer tells Brent that they’ll speak about his redundancy “tomorrow”, yet Comic Relief is always on a Friday, so they wouldn’t be meeting again til Monday. Thanks to Ed for the point out on this one!

Also in this episode, Brent meets Oggy for apparently for the first time, yet looking back at series one, episode one, Brent goes on about having been out with Gareth and all his mates. So how does that work?!

I just reckon he was too drunk to remember. Or Oggy went home early or something. I dunno.

Episode 6

Ron Merchant make his third appearance in the series in this episode, a much more obvious one than the first two, but his character, Gordon from maintenance, is still completely oblivious to the reasons why there are cameras about.
