From
Slough to Eternity
Sometimes,
I get truly surprised by what turns up in my inbox.
Normally,
it’s a little bit of praise, most often it’s some really sickening
praise followed by a request, and then there are the other times.
And
here’s a little story to explain...
Robert’s
Odyssey-Capturing the Moment
After
a week long holiday in Scotland I had a few days in London before
returning home and for me having been in London numerous times before
there was just one place to go . . . The Office.
I traveled from my hotel in the heart of Mayfair on the Tube from
Green Park to Paddington Station where I caught a train to Slough.
The scenery was breathtaking or perhaps it was the whiff of the rubbish
stacked along the way. After walking out of the station I saw the
back of the Unisys building featured on the opening sequence. Believe
it or not someone then asked me if I knew where the bus station was.
Of course remembering the opening scenes from the show, I pointed
in the direction of the Unisys building and sure enough a 100 yards
away there was the most famous bus station in all the UK, Brunel.
After a few quick holiday snaps I boarded a bus and was off on
the ten minute ride down the A4 to Slough Trading Estates. Lovely
town
Slough, Mr. Betjeman was wrong, it is fit for humans. I got off
the bus and then in a very un-American fashion walked a quarter
mile
or so to
Crossbow House the facade of The Office. Oh if only I hadn't wasted
all those years in medical school and just studied the price
of Opti-Bright Laser Copy Paper (Two forty a gramme. Check the
list). A couple more pictures later I was back to the bus station
where
I walked under the roadway to the famous roundabout. It is times
like this that I am happy we gained independence (no offense).
As you can see the weather was "perfick". . . damp,
cool and cloudy with light drizzle. Perhaps the best part of
the odyssey
however, for this ugly American was hearing the other stations
being called off upon returning to Paddington. . . Reading, Aldershot,
Bracknell, you know, Yately, Winnersh, Taplow. . . Burfield.
Many thanks to the webmaster for this site
who was kind enough to allow me to share my trip to Slough.
Me
again
And
there you have it! Rob’s words, not mine, not even the thanking
me bit, which I would have had to stick on anyway, because who would
suggest that I don’t deserve it eh?
Here’s
the last couple of pics for you perusal, and remember, if he can
do it, you can to. But you won’t get a page about it, there can be
only one.
